The Eco-club members at St Joseph’s Sr.Sec School, Sector 44D, have always been an active lot. They have been learners themselves and have on numerous occasions taught and inspired many, to be concerned and conscious of the environment. Since the past few weeks, the ever enthusiastic members have taken the initiative and done a lot of good in and around their school campus. The young energetic members got busy preparing signage’s carrying meaningful messages and slogans on beating plastic pollution – a must read for children to enable them to understand the damages done by a hugely harmful product like plastic. It has been observed that there is no such thing as ‘away’ when we throw anything ‘away’ such as plastic products – it must go somewhere and that somewhere unfortunately is on the planet itself. A strong message that needs to be understood and what better place than in schools. Students also got busy making folders and paper bags, a necessary requirement in today’s times. Another important task undertaken was, Students telling their peers the disadvantages of using plastic bags, bottles and aluminium foils. This brought about a sea change in numerous classrooms where the foils were replaced by tissue papers & cloth napkins. A good move that was much appreciated. It has been rightly said ‘that the only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved. The environment is where we all meet, where we all have a mutual interest. It is the one thing all of us share.’ The eco clubs incharge Ms Nithya & her team of this club took it upon themselves to teach students to be responsible individuals. They have always believed that to provide a better life and a better world for future generations, we can’t ignore the quality of the environment we leave behind for our children protecting our future on this planet depends on the conscious evolution of our species-clearly understood and taken care of, at the great temple of learning – at St .
