Chandigarh, July 17: Today, volunteers of Yuvsatta-NGO along with Peace Club students & teachers of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School received at School campus two young cyclists from Bangladesh Md. Robiul Islam and Jahangir Aalam, Members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Dr. Abdul Qayum, Dy. Conservator of Forests & Addl. CEO, CREST at Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest. Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion included Pramod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta and Mr. Sheraz Ahmed of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jammat, Chandigarh.
Welcoming the young environment & peace lovers Mrs. Monica Chawla, Principal shared that it’s a great honour for them to receive these two young men, who had already travelled over 2500 kms., after starting on June 17th from Dhaka and reaching Chandigarh after covering seven different states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab & Haryana. And they further plan pedaling to reach Leh and Khardungla pass (the highest motorable pass of the world). Their spirit of adventure of confidence motivated the School children’s to take pride and courage in doing such adventures in life.
Sharing about the journey till Chandigarh Md. Robiul Islam said that they started from Dhaka with mission of Bangladesh India Friendship, Peace & Environmental Conservation, planting saplings on the way in almost all cities they touched during the initiative and it’s heartening for them to visit and see Chandigarh the most green and clean city they have seen till date, especially for cyclists this city has lot to offer. They plan to finish their Dhaka to Leh journey of approx.. 4000 kms by August 15-the Independence Day of India.Appreciating the courageous attempt of two young men from friendly neighbouring country of Bangladesh Dr. Abdul Qayum said that we need more and more young people to selflessly work on global challenges of climate change, environmental conservation and peace. And these two boys are real-time role models for young students to take first step and become active green citizens of nation by planting and caring for atleast one tree, to consume less and conserve more and motivate their family and friends to practice green living following the 5 R’s green mantra of Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose & Recycle.The programme ended with plantation of green saplings by all prominent people at the School campus.
