The students and staff members from St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, visited Pingalwara Charitable Society, for the under privileged at village Palsora. They led the way in making Teachers’ Day special.
This novel initiative of visits has been introduced by the Principal Ms. Monica Chawla wherein teachers and students go to various places a few days prior to Teachers’ Day and do their bit as responsible citizens. On the 31st of Aug, a group of teachers led by Ms. Manjit and Dr. Megha took a few students to the Charitable Society and spoke about the importance of personal health and hygiene.
Such conversations when put across effectively can create a significant impact. Students made colourful Rangoli patterns and did their bit by beautifying the area. To make everyone feel a little relaxed, children also cracked jokes and amused everyone around. The girl students showed their skill in applying mehndi, much to the fascination of inmates. Creatively crafted items were made to show case the talent of the young students.
The idea was not just to entertain but to go for a more meaningful purpose. Food, stationery and toiletries were donated. In doing, so students learnt a valuable lesson on why it is important to think about others who are less fortunate. It is also a great way for children to learn what it means to be benevolent for as is aptly remarked ‘Giving is not just about making a donation. It’s about making a difference.’Where most institutions have Teachers’ Day celebrations with students wishing and making their teachers feel special, it is different at St. Joseph’s. It is here that the teachers made the day special for many who need such days of joy and merriment and with none other than with their students who assisted them in the noble task.
The day ended on a joyous note with Josephians dancing with them to Punjabi music. Indeed-a day well spent for the Mentors, students and for the underprivileged of our society. A truly magnificent way to lead and for the learners a great way to learn and follow the footsteps of their Gurus.
