Week “was celebrated in the month of December, reaffirming the fact that every child is a natural Mathematician.Each day was earmarked by activities for students .
Maths!, Maths !Maths!, For a week this was one element prevalent at St. Joseph’s.A horde of activities with a dollop of fun thrown in,were planned to provide an entire gamut of opportunities to students to step out of the confines of the regular classroom and make the most of the hands-on experience that the various Mathematical activities offered them, eliciting the very best out of them and fortifying them with self-confidence and equipping them with sturdy and essential life skills.
It was indeed a huge success ,as the students actively participated in every event.Eventually hearing “We love maths!” from students was like music to the teacher’s ears. Junior as well as senior students took part with great enthusiasm. Different activities were planned and conducted at Middle Block including Making Magic Squares, Mathematics Quiz on Ramanujan, Making posters, Solving puzzles ,Skit on “How Important Maths is in Our Day to Day Life”, Art integrated Mathematics activities were the highlights on the first day of the week.
The second day of the week reached to the next level of excitement, when students from Middle Block put their heart and soul in different Art integrated Mathematics activities like tangrams, 3D illusions, Minecraft, tessellations, dancing shapes, videos and made houses as well based on perimeter and area. Not only this, Students had also shown their skills in solving a Rubik’s cube in less than 30 seconds in the coming days of the week. Junior students made Fractional Bird, Bill Making , Fractional Wheel and learnt Mathematics in an interesting way.Fulfilling the aim to create an interactive and interesting learning of Mathematics, the students of class 1 and 2 also participated in huge plathora of activities comprising months of the year ,different seasons and Skip Counting, measuring length from different items, multiplication tables.The sole objective of these activities was to help students to extend the experiential learning in Mathematics.Learning by doing leads to a better understanding and construction of knowledge about different concepts. Children enjoyed these fun way of learning Mathematics, they were able to grasp the concepts well and participated in all the activities with great enthusiasm and zeal.
The event was successful in intriguing the students about the exciting world of Mathematics.
The revered Principal ma’am Monica Chawla asserted that
the purpose behind celebration of ‘Mathematics Week ‘was to provide students and teachers with an opportunity to interface with Mathematics in the real world. She further explained that event was conducted in order to engage students in identifying areas in the everyday life ,where they are using Mathematics.
