HEALTH TALK FOR STUDENTS AT ST. JOSEPH’S ON RELEVANT ISSUES.
An all important online session was held by the Doctor at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D. Dr. Megha spoke relevant topics like –‘Myths and facts about Covid – 19’ and ‘Eating Disorders’ . This was for the students of the Secondary block. Keeping the age group in mind, these issues were spoken of and this was done to make children aware of pertinent issues . Speaking on the myths and facts surrounding Covid , the Doctor stated, that there is a lot of misinformation about the disease and it is most important to get correct facts from reliable sources, the best being from the renowned, World Health Organisation . Students had varied questions for the Doctor, eg. Would most people with Covid recover and which category of people are more at risk? The Doctor was the most suitable person to answer the queries of the inquisitive children. Infact, in a crisis, it is acceptable to have many more questions than answers and at such times ,we must all be learners. Dr. Megha emphasized the need to be informed, be prepared, be smart , be safe and most importantly , be ready to fight the dreaded disease.
The Doctor in her conversation with the students, also spoke of Eating Disorders, that is a common problem being faced by all sections of the society today and especially the adolescents. On this topic, many important aspects were covered such as – eating disorders not just being poor choices, that one makes but being serious illnesses which should not be taken for granted, moreover they can also carry an increased risk of medical complications. The Doctor also explained that these can affect people of all genders and ages. According to her, full recovery is possible but early detection and intervention are crucial. Well said by the expert – ‘recovery is a challenge but it’s not as difficult as continuing to live with the wrath of an eating disorder.’
Such talks are indeed helpful for youngsters, who often require the advice of adults to guide them through the challenging time of being teenagers. The Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla has always stressed on the need for such significant interactions with the youngsters to keep them well clued up with important issues. Infact, these monthly conversations are organized by the House In-charges of the school. It was Ashoka House that took on the charge of arranging for Dr. Megha to speak to the children. This interaction, surely left the students much more aware and knowledgeable about Covid 19 and eating disorders.
