STUDENTS MAKE ECO BRICKS ON EARTH DAY AT ST. JOSEPHS SR. SEC. SCHOOL
Earth day is celebrated across the world on 22nd April. It is the day of making promises to make the Earth healthier and greener for generations to come. At St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School , Sector 44 D , Earth day was marked much before the arrival of this all important day .Students from classes II to X, made Eco Bricks which would be sent to the Municipal Corporation, after the restrictions due to the pandemic would be eased . The brain child of this innovative idea were the Cabinet Members of the School lead by the Head Girl, Shreya Chawla and the Head Boy, Jayant Sharma . It was the Head Girl who took the initiative and spoke to Mr. Amritpal , the MOH Municipal Corporation and shared the idea of the contribution the school would make of the Eco Bricks . This plan was then executed by the Ashoka House that enlightened the students and more than 900 Eco Bricks were finally collected.
In making these bricks, students learnt valuable lessons. Some of the learnings were that they serve as reusable building blocks and could be made use for making furniture, garden walls and other structures. Students also understood that it becomes our personal responsibility to get rid of the plastic that we use and to dispose it off in a constructive , sensible and wise manner.
The School has taken on the task of imparting valuable lessons about the Environment to its students. Children have been taught, that we need to live not just for ourselves but for Humanity at large and to serve it to the best of our ability. Another great take away during the making of these Eco Bricks was that plastic disposal not only pollutes the land but the water and air, the three primary elements for any living being on the Earth. This is a fact that needs to be a constant reminder to the youngsters.
It has been rightly said that,“ Plastic is the most destructive weapon even more than a nuclear or atom bomb – it’s impact shall remain for centuries on the future generations.” A sad reality but so very true. A necessary reminder to be given to the future of this planet – to our children .
The Principal Ms. Monica Chawla reiterated that the school would be committed to having a generation free from plastic. She praised the children for their efforts and put across a valuable message that great things happen through great commitments. The students of this Institution remain dedicated to do their very best for the planet, our very own Mother Earth. The Eco Bricks made by these tiny little hands will surely leave their big impact .
