A PLETHORA OF ACTIVITIES AT ST. JOSEPH’S ON MOSQUITO-BORNE DISEASES
To create awareness among students about Mosquito-borne diseases, the First Aid club of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School Chandigarh, conducted various activities in all blocks in which the students took part with great enthusiasm. The Primary Block students made beautiful posters on vector-borne diseases. Students of Class IV made posters conveying powerful messages and also mentioned the precautions to be taken to prevent malaria. The students unleashed their amazing talent as they presented their work. In the Middle Block, Dr. Megha Sharma acquainted the students about the causes, symptoms and preventive measures to be taken as part of the fight against Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya and also gave valuable tips to avoid mosquito bites by using insect repellents, covering the arms and legs and using a mosquito net. She shared how certain diseases spread in the body from the liver to the blood. The Doctor also explained why checking at the right time is crucial and told students about the preventive measures which do not require any expertise and can easily be practised using behavioural control of the mosquitoes. These mosquito-related diseases need to be fought against relentlessly and cohesively. In the Secondary Block, Josephians had a group discussion where they shared their knowledge about these vector-borne diseases. All students participated enthusiastically in the discussion and the session was both educative and informative.
The School Principal also praised the efforts of students and First – Aid Club members and advised them to fight the deadly disease by adopting simple measures of keeping the surroundings clean and not letting water stagnate. Though we are confining ourselves at homes for our safety from Corona but at the same time let us ensure that there is no breeding ground for mosquitoes anywhere in and around our surroundings. She encouraged the students to take precautions against mosquito-borne diseases and to create a healthy mosquito-free environment.
