Josephians observe World Ocean Day
‘World Ocean Day’ an international day that has been officially recognized as well as implemented worldwide as a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was celebrated by class 11th and 12th of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School. With an intention to foster public interest in the protection of the ocean and sustainably managing its resources, the theme for World Ocean Day was ‘The Ocean: Life & Livelihoods’.
Arshdeep (Xll) of Humanities and Mamtakshi (Xl) of Commerce featured a video that shed light on the wonders of the ocean and how it is our life source, supporting humanity and every other organism on Earth. Arshia (XII)Sciences presented her views and recommendation via a powerful online presentation.
Other students also shared their posters and voiced their opinions sparking change and living purposefully. Unique re-learning’s were offered to the students by the students only, regarding finding alternates while buying seafood and stopping buying seafood that hasn’t been caught or farmed sustainably. It was a mass movement to spread awareness for making earth-friendly choices and trash-free water bodies.
Some presentations also shared visual graphics looking at the problem, addressing solutions, and imagining a future where we’ve solved our plastic crisis. The message spread across was loud and clear that; “if humans damage ocean health enough, we can potentially cause our extinction, the oceans, however, will recover and prosper without us”
Principal Madam complimented the students for this crucial step trodden by them. Seizing this opportunity just like another Environmental Day to come together in actionable ways she said that modifying our lifestyle and changing the harmful industrial practices which are damaging ocean health is relatively imperative.
