OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING –LEGAL LITERACY CLUB
“DRUGS TAKE YOU TO HELL DISGUISED AS HEAVEN”
Legal Literacy Club marked ‘Anti Drug Day’ in which the students of the Secondary Block at St. Joseph’s School, Chandigarh, took an oath to stay away from drugs and prevent their peers from falling victim to this dreaded addiction. The 2021 International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking aims at combating misinformation and promotes sharing facts on drugs, i.e. # Share Facts on Drugs #SaveLives. Students pledged that they would create awareness about the ill- effects of drug abuse by motivating others to play the role of responsible citizens. The Indian Government is doing its bit to safeguard its youth against drug use and has taken numerous steps to prevent cross-border drug trafficking. Drug abuse is a significant issue of concern in recent years, especially amongst the youth of the country. In fact, the entire society is impacted when young people fall prey to this dangerous disease. The role of educators is key in combating this menace. A presentation on ‘Drug Abuse’ was shown to the students in which the difference between medicines and drugs was elaborated. Educator, Ms. Navleen Nahar spoke at length about the ill effects of drugs on health and society. She emphasized the need to spread awareness about substance abuse.
Expressing her concern over the issue, the School Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla, appealed to the parents and educators to play a proactive role and be aware and alert about this much-dreaded addiction which can have a deadly impact on the lives of young teenagers. Citizens of the state, especially the youth, are hugely impacted by the misuse of drug abuse, making it an issue of public concern. The Principal appreciated the youngsters for voluntarily joining the cause of the “War on Drugs.”
