 ZERO WASTAGE OF FOOD

CHILDREN AT ST. JOSEPH’S SHOW THE WAY WITH ZERO WASTAGE OF FOOD
The young students in the Secondary block at St. Joseph’s school, participated enthusiastically in the zero wastage of food activity conducted by Ranjit House.
This activity was carried out under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations, as a Universal call to action, to end poverty and ensure that by 2030, all people enjoy prosperity. The SDGs aim, is to end all forms of hunger making sure that sufficient food is supplied throughout the year to the needy across the world. The students were made aware of this activity to sensitize them about the value of food in our lives.
An all-important activity was conducted that required students to share what all they did with the surplus food at home. It was heart-warming to see what the enthusiastic students did with the excess food. Some sent photographs of food being given to the helpers at home, others giving food to stray animals ,while some were seen sharing their delicious food with their neighbours. It is often said that,” respect for food is a respect for life and that food is meant for sharing, not for wasting”
Mother Teresa has rightly said that,” if you can’t feed a hundred people, feed just one”.
Beautiful thought to be carried on by children. This surely brings a smile on the person who is donating and the person who receives. It is said that,” happiness does not result from what we get but from what we give.”
During regular school days, students would always say a short-prayer before the recess- a significant value taught to children to be grateful for the food that they got each day. Teachers often tell children during classes that any food partaken with reverence is sacred and that  acknowledging the good in one’s life, is the foundation of abundance. Moral takeways from this gesture of sharing food are many and are often told to the students. Some of these touching thoughts being that the generous will themselves be blessed ,for they share their food with the needy. “The thankful heart surely opens our eyes to a multitude of blessings that continually surround us”.
The Principal Ms. Monica Chawla was appreciative of the House that incorporated this activity in a way that helped students learn the importance of Zero Wastage of food. Infact, she conveyed a valuable message of not wasting food and to, “do it for a noble cause and a great social activity”.
Oprah Winfrey rightly said – “helping people, is indeed the most human thing we can do”.
Indeed , a  great takeaway for young impressionable minds.
