 QUIT INDIA DAY CELEBRATION

QUIT INDIA DAY CELEBRATION
‘Do or Die’
“We shall either free India or die in the attempt.
We shall not live to see the perpetuation of our slavery”
      — Mahatma Gandhi
In remembrance of legends that refused to give up, the 78th Anniversary of Quit India Movement, an important milestone in the Freedom Struggle of India, was celebrated at St.Joseph’s Sr.Sec. School, Sector 44 D.
The Quit India Movement , also known as the August Movement, was a movement launched at the Bombay session of the Indian National Congress by Mahatma Gandhi on 8 August 1942, during World War II, demanding an end to the British rule in India. After the failure of the Cripps Mission to secure Indian support for the British war effort, Gandhi ji made a call to’ Do or Die’ in his Quit India speech delivered in Bombay on 8 August 1942 at Kranti Maidan. The Indian National Congress launched a mass protest demanding what Gandhi ji called “An Orderly British Withdrawal” from India. The movement is best described by his call to ‘Do or Die’.
Marking this turning point in India’s freedom struggle, a ‘Video Making Competition ‘was organised for Class Vlllth students on the theme ‘A Salute’ to the lesser known freedom fighters including Jayaprakash Narayan, Aruna Asaf Ali and many others to shed light on the activities that accelerated the momentum of the Indian Freedom Struggle.
Our young patriots participated in this competition with a lot of enthusiasm coming up with very creative and innovative videos unfurling myriad shades of patriotism. Each video was an iridescent display of patriotism and gratitude for our country and the brave hearts whose eternal sacrifice is the reason, why we stand free today.
The day witnessed an ocean of emotions towards the motherland, brimming in everybody’s heart! It was indeed a great day, as everyone expressed love, pride and reverence for our country and its great leaders and fighters who freed our country from the shackles of colonial regime, leading the future generation into the glorious era of freedom.
The revered Principal, Ms Monica Chawla said in her message for the students
“Never forget you can make the difference. Go ahead and do it. Your family, your society, your country is waiting for you.”
