The Fourth International E- Waste Day was observed by the Middle Block at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh on 14th October, 2021.

As we know, unwanted, non-working electronic devices are termed as E-Waste.

The use of technology is increasing day by day and even more so during the pandemic lockdown when people across the globe had to switch over to electronic devices and Work from Home became the new norm. Moreover, with the advancements in technology, a large number of electronic devices are becoming obsolete almost on a regular basis. These devices contain harmful materials which can pose a threat to the environment if not disposed properly. Toxic materials present in E-waste get mixed with earth, air, water, etc. and cause health issues in human beings, animals and other animates.

To create awareness and sensitize the students, activities such as Paper Reading,  Group Discussions and Making Best out of E-Waste  were conducted on the virtual platform. The Paper Reading activity helped to throw light on all the relevant facts on what e waste constitutes and the ways to dispose them off safely. Students availed the opportunity to quiz each other and answer one another’s queries in the Group Discussions. They also enjoyed putting together e-waste materials to create useful and decorative items in the Best out of Waste activity.

Principal Ms. Monica  Chawla, herself an avid environmental activist, says that though we need to do our duty by our planet every day, observing  such days provide the necessary impetus to propel the new generation in the right direction.
