ST. JOSEPH’S HOSTS ICTCR PROGRAM ON UNDERSTANDING SEXUAL BEHAVIOUR IN SCHOOL CHILDREN
“Embrace the unique way your child is blooming- even if it is not in the garden you imagined.”-
In keeping with its customary practice, St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh has always ventured to proffer its teachers well-designed and effective training programmes and webinars which provide them the opportunity to acquire the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes required for the 21st century classroom.
Under the headship of Principal Ms. Monica Chawla, St. Joseph’s availed the unique opportunity to host the eminent educational psychologist and trainer Dr. Ravindran, the Director General of ICTRC – the Institute of Counsellor Training Research and Consultancy to conduct the webinar ‘In Conversation with Dr. VS Ravindran on Understanding Sexual Behaviour of School Children’.
Dr. Ravindran has been training people in leadership positions across educational institutions and both private and public sectors for over thirty years. His areas of expertise include Counselor Training, Teacher Training and Leadership Development among others.
As we know and must acknowledge, schools play a big role in the socialization process of children since children spend a huge part of their time in schools. Having traversed a long way, covering a multitude of issues, since the pandemic began, this Program was another opportunity to gain cognizance on a matter that sadly remains rather taboo in most areas even today.
School Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla, set the conversation rolling by asking pertinent questions related to children’s sexual behavior such as how to handle inappropriate conduct, how to care for children approaching puberty, how to safeguard our kids against sexual abuse both online and otherwise and so on.
Dr. Ravindran addressed each and every query with ease, expertise and remarkable lucidity that benefitted every one of the 480+ participants of the webinar. He emphasized on Parent Orientation Programs since parent advocacy is of utmost importance and also stressed on how imperative it is to have Sex Education in schools. Since the webinar was for the teaching faculty, he highlighted the fact that all classrooms will have low hanging fruits, middle hanging fruits and high hanging fruits so every teacher must be prepared to teach and reach each one by catering to their individual needs.
