International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Josephite Celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities
“Disability is a matter of perception. If you can do just one thing well, you’re needed by someone.” -Martina Navratilova
“International Day of Persons with Disabilities” was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School ,Sector 44D Chandigarh with a motive to raise awareness and promote the rights and perspectives of persons with disabilities around the world.
The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
To mark this important day – and in keeping with the theme – Josephites took  a moment to empathize with  persons living with disabilities.
‘A Soulful Play’ was presented by Middle Block Students portraying the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. Our young actors put their heart and soul into the act sending the message loud and clear.
Leading by Example
Students of Primary-2 learned ‘Sign language’ and shared various motivational quotes with a purpose to learn to focus on capabilities and empowering those with disabilities rather than focusing on their deficit.
The revered Principal Ms Monica Chawla appreciated efforts of the students. She further stated that  it is the need of the hour to focus on abilities rather than disabilities by fostering an inclusive culture and responding to the urgent needs of people with disability in all aspects of society, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
