‘Give to every human being every right that you claim for yourself’

Human rights are the basic rights that belong to all of us simply because we are human.They embody key values in our society such as fairness, dignity,equality and respect. They are an important means of protection for us all,especially those who face abuse, neglect and isolation. The Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on 10th December since its proclamation in 1948. The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

 We declare that human rights are for all of us, all the time: whoever we are and wherever we are from; no matter our class, our opinions, our sexual orientation.” – Ban Ki-moon

This day is celebrated to improve the physical,social cultural and spiritual well being and welfare of the vulnerable group of people globally.

To spread awareness and inculcate empathy towards people who are denied their basic human rights,the Primary 2 Block and the Senior Secondary Block of St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School,Sector 44-D,Chandigarh,celebrated Human Rights Day.The students made it loud and clear through their powerful and effective speeches that to deny people their human rights is to challenge humanity.The topics which left an impact on everyone’s heart were-The right against exploitation,right to equality,right to education,right to freedom of thought etc.and impressive and meaningful posters was an eye opener for all.The human rights belong equally to each of us and bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values.

Besides this, inspirational videos were also shown to the students and the teachers explained to them the importance of human rights and how judiciously they can be practiced.
