World Wetland Day is celebrated on the 2nd of February every year to commemorate the day on which the Convention on Wetlands was adopted in the year 1971. The primary reason to celebrate this day is to raise awareness about the importance of the wetlands and remind everyone of the many ways it benefits this Earth.
Students of Middle Block, St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh, marked the day by participating wholeheartedly in sharing PPT’s prepared by them under the supervision of faculty members of Eco Club describing how wetlands act as a buffer protecting the coast from flooding and storms, providing an ecosystem that is biologically diverse and is home to a variety of species of animals and insects and also purifying and filtering the water naturally by breaking down the harmful pollutants. They came up with breathtaking images and photographs and collages of the same. All were mesmerized to see such serenity and could savour the natural beauty through all the activities done by the students.
Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla, became a witness to such great experience for all and apprised the students regarding the importance of the day and the dire necessity to conserve the wetlands.
