St. Joseph’s & ICTRC co- host Orientation Webinar on “Teacher as a Counsellor- The Emerging Concept”
Accentuating its child centric approach, St. Joseph’s Sr Sec School collaborated with ICTRC – a national level Counsellor’s training and Research organization to host a webinar for Principals and Chairman’s of schools in Northern India and including schools of Gulf Countries too.
The main objective of the webinar was to provide School administrators, a platform to develop conceptual understanding of the need of a teacher as a counselor. This was done to provide leadership and direction to the guidance program in their school. The session was attended by 650 plus national and international school heads and owners.
Dr. V S RAVINDRAN Director General ICTRC said that the teacher must open the door but a learner must enter himself; for that a teacher as a counselor should be creating class magic, spark learning and engineer the child. He said it is pivotal for the schools to propel vivid presence as a counsellor who in the transcending times helps the child to be a mover & shaker. When a teacher is empowered to be a counsellor as well, he/she will be able to engage in a dialogue with the child to debrief and empathize.
Mrs. Monica Chawla, Principal St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School recapitulated the webinar’s learnings under developmental phase, preventive phase and remedial phase. She also said that our latest pedagogy, strengthen the filial cords; redefine, relearn & recreate procedures as a paradigm shift. She urged the participants to lens their focus on reflection & reformation of our in & out support.
Dr. Ravindran addressed the queries with remarkable lucidity. He emphasized on advocating the teachers to be an influencer, be positive & learn constructive criticism, last but not the least, awaken love for learning and discovery.
Principal Ms. Monica Chawla, herself a huge admirer of Dr. Ravindran whom she considers a Transforming Trainer and a Galvanizing Guru, quoted ‘It has been said that a single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of mere book reading.’ – saying that Dr. Ravindran had indeed proved this adage true. She was truly delighted to have hosted the webinar which form a part of the Project Paradigm ‘Transacting Transitions’ and summed up the salient takeaways from the programme emphasizing that keeping the child mentally, physically and emotionally engaged is the key factor to avoid inappropriate behavior and that the onus lies on the adults i.e. parents and teachers to ensure the same. The Director, Mr. Rupinder Singh Grewal, appreciated the initiative taken by the Principal who always ensures that the Josephian Family leaves no stone unturned in gaining insight into such apposite thematic concepts.
