Cloth Bag Campaign Launched Under S.T.O.P.
“If plastic can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned, or removed from production.”
-Pete Seeger
Every great accomplishment begins with an idea that aims to inspire and bring about a revolution, a single step, a single effort. Adhering to their commitment to curb the use of disposable plastic, St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh once again came up with an innovative project named- The Cloth Bag Campaign.
The Programme urges one and all to come together and say no to single use plastic and to propagate the use of cloth and jute bags and shun the use of plastic bags. The Josephites proudly proclaimed that it is their way to create a cleaner and a greener planet for all and pledge their devotion to the task.
The innovative campaign was inaugurated in the school premises by Mr. Pramod Sharma, Coordinator and founder of Yuvsatta, an NGO. The event saw the distribution of paper and jute bags to people by the school, taking their first step towards making the programme as success. Mr. Pramod, our honourable guest was also presented with paper and jute bags and creatively designed comic strips which underlined the ill effects of plastic and the bane of cloth bags. Mr. Pramod has been a constant guide and mentor to our school and has been an inspiration for the various philanthropic undertakings of the school.
Today’s event was a true reflection of the school’s dedication for creating a sustainable environment for all and carries forward the legacy of being a responsible institute of the city. The fine actors of the school sent across a clear and loud message, urging all to wake up to save Earth before it would be too late. Using the medium of poetry and narration, the juniors and the seniors of the school shared their environmental concerns and brought forth the gravity of problem caused due to the use of plastic. The students also shared the various activities that the school had undertaken for the noble cause which included cleanliness drives, rallies for awareness, initiatives to put discarded plastic to multiple use, etc. The event ended with the students pledging to act as Green Saviours and putting earnest efforts towards bringing about a positive change in the outlook of the masses and creating a plastic free world.
