 Green Diwali Healthy Diwali

“Light a lamp of love. Blast a chain of sorrow. Shoot a rocket of prosperity. Fire a flowerpot of happiness and celebrate a sparkling Diwali”.

Diwali, the festival of lights and knowledge, was celebrated with fervour, devotion, and zeal at St Joseph’s Sr Sec School, Chandigarh. The school wore a festive look to mark the celebration of Lord Rama’s return from fourteen years of exile to Ayodhya. Teachers apprised the students about the history and the spiritual significance of Diwali as the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair.

Students of all blocks enthusiastically participated in a spectrum of activities; wearing ethnic dresses, ranging from Organic Rangoli, Candle, Diya decoration, Toran, Lantern, and Wall Hanging making to organising a magnificent exhibition of the artifacts made by the students showcasing amazing works of art and creativity.

The Green Diwali Exhibition” on the theme “Green Diwali Healthy Diwali” was organised by the Department of Environment in collaboration with Youth Innovative Society’ and St.Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, with an intent to spread a message of Crackers and Pollution Free ‘DEEPAWALI’ not just Diwali.

Sir Debendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests and Wildlife Chandigarh Chandigarh, CEO Solar Energy, and Mr.Sachin from Youth lnnovative society were the guests of honour of the event.

Sir was overwhelmed to witness humble initiatives the school is taking to shape up responsible citizens of India and motivated them for all their future endeavours. He duly acknowledged the fact that change can’t be brought in a day and urged everyone to keep on striving a making and keeping our planet safer and greener for future generations.

The day was filled with many activities and events including a thought-provoking talk on the ill effects of Bursting Crackers on our health and our ecological system. Students also learned about different ways to celebrate Green Diwali. The star performance of the day was the Nukkad Natak by our Street Hawkers, who came with an urge to protect the environment by celebrating a Green and Cracker-free Diwali. They also portrayed the message that we should burn our bad habits not crackers on this Diwali.

In the end, an Oath to mark “Green Swachh Diwali” was administered to ensure the safeguarding of the environment and keep it breathable for all living beings.

The Director Mr. Paramdeep Grewal as well as the Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla urged everyone present to burn all their bad times, not our nature. Ma’am requested everyone that “this Diwali lets fill our minds and homes with lights and flowers, not explosives and fumes. As Earth has enough problems already, we don’t need to create another. So, avoid crackers. She further requested that this Diwali let’s minimize harmful gases and maximize love and happiness. She said, Diwali is all about the gleam of diyas, echo of the Vedic chants, and paying respects to the almighty. Not smoke crackers explosions and pollution.

Ma’am congratulated everyone and summed up her wishes “All the lights of the world cannot be compared even to a ray of the inner light of the self. Merge yourself in this light and enjoy the festival of lights”
