‘Gandhi Vichaar Parichey Pariksha’ to Mark Martyr’s Day

St. Joseph’s Conducts ‘Gandhi Vichaar Parichey Pariksha’ to Mark Martyr’s Day

‘Let us salute all those who bore all the torture and pain but never gave up because their Nation always came first.’

Martyr’s Day is observed every year on January 30 to commemorate the brave hearts who valiantly sacrificed their lives for the sake of their motherland. At St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh, the day is dedicated to those whose every breath and heartbeat was for the nation, by hosting various activities to pay tribute to them.

The date is significant as it was on this day in 1948 that our beloved Bapu- the Father of the Nation- Mahatma Gandhi who breathed his last with the words ‘Hey Ram’ was brutally assassinated by Nathuram Godse. It was indeed tragic that the man who practised Ahimsa or non -violence all his life had to meet his end in such a violent manner.

Apart from the customary two-minute silence to pray for the departed souls, the students of the Middle Block also partook in a talk on the chronological order of the events that shaped the National Movement and the contributions of our freedom fighters.

The Josephians also participated in the ‘Gandhi Vichaar Parichay Pariksha’ organised by the Mumbai Sarvodyay Mandal. The students were asked questions pertaining to the life of Gandhiji and what enabled him to achieve the pinnacle of the human soul that is free from universal bondage to ultimately transform into the ‘Mahatma’.

Haritima of Class V-B bagged the First Position while Angel and Anwita Tiwari of Class VII-A secured the Second and Third Position, respectively.

The Vice Principal Ms. Meena Sharma congratulated the students on their success and said it was heartening to see the enthusiasm with which each student participated in the Quiz She stated that she herself was an avid follower of Bapu’s ideals and hoped that by learning more about his story the students would follow the path shown by Gandhiji, who would always remain an inspiration for the generations to come. The solemn occasion of his assassination was a day to salute the leader of tremendous grit and indomitable spirit whose principles and philosophy influence our lives even today.
