Every year on the 13th or 14th of April, Baisakhi, the harvest festival, is commemorated with great exuberance and enthusiasm at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh.
The tradition of the Baisakhi festival in its religious importance began in the year 1699 when the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, laid the foundation of the Panth Khalsa- the order of the Pure Ones and baptized Sikh warriors to defend religious freedoms.
Hailing the spirit of Punjab, the little ones of the Kindergarten Block, all decked up in traditional attire, performed the Bhangra and Giddha to the reverberating beats of Punjabi folk songs. Others availed the opportunity to showcase their Oratory Skills by reciting poems highlighting the significance of the festival.
The students of the Middle Block commenced the celebrations by apprising everyone about the significance of the festival A soulful rendition of the holy Shabad by the school choir entranced the audience followed by a poem and a song that brought alive the cultural richness.
Students also participated in a quick question answer round wherein they were quizzed on various aspects related to Baisakhi. The celebrations came to a close with the robust and vibrant Bhangra.
The Members of the Management and the Principal were full of praise for the assiduous efforts put in by the team of teachers and students. Principal Ms. Monica Chawla said that Baisakhi was the perfect time to embrace new beginnings and be thankful for the abundant blessings of the Almighty.
