Students at St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary celebrated Independence Day with enthusiasm and much fervour. A truly memorable day in Indian history was when India gained independence after many years of self-sacrifice by Indian freedom fighters. The day is marked to rejoice in the spirit of freedom.
To mark this momentous day, Mrs. Asha Rani, Principal, along with many students and parents of the partner school, GMSSS-37-D graced the occasion. The entire school came together to incorporate a true sense of celebration. In the KG block, the tiny tots saluted the super heroes of the country by crafting soldiers with paper strips and Popsicle Sticks. Pre-KG students made flying kites with tricolour collage, symbolizing freedom. The teachers held an interactive session for the students of KG, wherein they were made aware of various aspects related to India and its Independence. The students of the Middle Block decorated the outer boards and organised a competition on key chain making. In the Secondary Block, the outer board embellishment activity and an Inter-House GK quiz were conducted. The quiz focused on initiatives related to various themes, such as nature, science, agriculture, politics, health, and sports, since the year 2020. It was an excellent opportunity for students to learn and engage themselves in a fruitful way. The students of the Senior Secondary Block made artistic paintings of freedom fighters.
The school celebrated the 15th of August on the campus with the traditional unfurling of the tricolour, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. An array of items enthralled the audience. A heart-touching patriotic song was followed by a self-composed poem that touched the very core of every Indian who sat and heard this masterpiece. Beautiful classical and western dances took everyone’s breath away, not to forget the ever-popular bhangra, which surely is the life of any function. In an interesting panel discussion, the students of classes 8th and 9th expressed their views on the theme ‘Nation First, Always First’. The young, energetic students expressed vehemently the internal threats that the country faces, especially focusing on the G20, SDGs, brain drain, etc. The school, in its special ways to impart knowledge to students, created a special banner that had famous freedom fighters (hand-painted) with their biographies etched along the contours, followed by a signing campaign where all the dignitaries, mentors, and students wrote promises they hold fast for their nation.
In a message to the children and staff, the members of the Management, Mr. Sukhdeep S. Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep S. Grewal, mentioned that we must acknowledge that we gained independence because we fought for it together; it is only by staying together that we will be able to protect our independence. We got our freedom after a lot of sacrifices; we should never take it for granted.’
The Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla, sent out warm wishes on this great day and occasion. In her message, she emphasized keeping alive the memories of all the people who sacrificed their lives for our country, as we are living in a free land only because of the supreme sacrifices of these great individuals.
