Embracing Tradition with Sustainability — A Green Diwali Celebration at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School

St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School recently hosted a remarkable Green Diwali Celebration, beautifully blending traditional festivities with environmental consciousness. This special event, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Administration’s Department of Environment and the Youth Innovative Society led by Mr. Sachin, underscored the importance of celebrating Diwali in an eco-friendly way while honoring the age-old customs. In a unique move, St. Joseph’s also extended the celebration to students from government schools, providing them an opportunity to actively participate in the festivities and showcase their talents.

The celebration kicked off with a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Dr. Nemi Chand, State Liaison Officer for the National Service Scheme, who was presented with a symbolic planter. In his speech, Dr. Chand lauded the school’s commitment to celebrating a sustainable Diwali, noting, “Your efforts to uphold Diwali traditions while promoting environmental responsibility sets a remarkable example for all. Students, continue to honor these values and embrace green choices.” His words inspired the students, reinforcing their dedication to adopting eco-conscious lifestyles.

Adding to the occasion, another special invitee RJ Rex, graced the occasion.Known for his vibrant personality, RJ Rex shared insightful advice with the students, particularly the dancers, encouraging them to elevate their expressions and performances. His feedback added a fresh layer of enthusiasm to the event.

The celebration featured a series of lively cultural performances, beginning with a beautiful welcome song. A highlight of the event was a captivating jugalbandi performance by Yashika Narula and Vanshika, whose seamless collaboration and rhythm mesmerized the audience, symbolizing the unity of the Diwali spirit.

In addition to the performances from St. Joseph’s students, students from various government schools participated enthusiastically in the event’s Talent Show. Their involvement was a significant part of the celebration, marking an effort by St. Joseph’s to make the government school community a part of the Diwali festivities. These students showcased their skills in multiple categories such as dance, singing, mimicry, painting, rangoli making, and advertisement creation. Not only did they participate actively, but they also earned top honors in several categories, further enhancing the event’s collaborative spirit.

Students Archit Garg and Saanvi Vats from Class 10 presented a powerful speech and a heartfelt poem, urging the audience to embrace an eco-conscious Diwali. Their message echoed the event’s central theme: celebrating with mindfulness and responsibility.

The youngest attendees from Primary-2 brought an infectious energy to the event with their “Show and Tell” segment, where they creatively showcased their understanding of green practices. Their enthusiasm for environmental sustainability left a lasting impression on all.

A key feature of the event was the Talent Trove competition awards, where Dr. Nemi Chand announced the winners from both St. Joseph’s and government schools. The competition included diverse categories like dance, singing, mimicry, painting, rangoli, and advertisement making. Each winning student was met with enthusiastic applause as they proudly accepted their prizes, marking the success of this inclusive celebration.

Another standout of the day was the Green Diwali Exhibition, which was inaugurated by Dr. Chand. This exhibition displayed a variety of innovative, eco-friendly projects crafted by students. These projects served as both educational and inspirational tools, encouraging everyone to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily lives.

As the event drew to a close, school management members Sukhdeep Grewal and Paramdeep Grewal shared words of encouragement, highlighting the importance of sustainability and urging everyone to embrace eco-friendliness in all aspects of their lives. Principal Monica Chawla also shared her thoughts, emphasizing that celebrating a Green Diwali is not just about preserving our heritage, but also about making a commitment to our environment. “As we light up our homes this Diwali, we should also illuminate our responsibility toward the environment. Celebrations should bring joy as well as a mindful approach to our surroundings,” she remarked.

EXPRESSIONS : UNVEILING THE COLOURS OF CULTURE AT ST.JOSEPH’S

The annual Cultural Eve entitled, ‘Expressions’ was celebrated with much fervor and gaiety at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44. The Chief Guest on the occasion was  Ms. Ramandeep Kaur who is currently the Deputy Secretary and Head of the Centre of Excellence (COE) Chandigarh. Some special invitees for the event were Principals of reputed schools of the Tricity.

The event began with a heartwarming tradition of the Ganesh Vandana. Thereafter, a mesmerizing journey through the vibrant tapestry of Indian culture unfolded. The stage came alive with the graceful movements of dances like Bhangra and a Punjabi folk dance Sammi entitled, Harvest Hues. A patriotic dance, Veer Bhumi was a powerful tribute to the brave hearts of our nation. The story of Lanka, a dynamic presentation of Ravan ,was a profound reminder of the dangers of unchecked power and arrogance. A tribal dance enthralled the audience with the mystic dragon and colourful costumes. The fusion of the mythical creature with tribal culture created a powerful and visually stunning spectacle.

A western dance performance full of energy and dynamic movements had the most visually stunning props. Other items included a choir with soulful melodious songs and a  hilarious Hindi Nukkad Natak which unfolded with a series of witty dialogues, leaving the audience in splits. Each character’s exaggerated antics and playful banter added to the chaos, creating laugh-out-loud moments. The show seamlessly incorporated meaningful fillers ensuring smooth transitions between performances.

The Head Boy and the Head Girl proudly enumerated the  remarkable achievements undertaken in the past year. These included Academic Excellence, Philanthropic Endeavours, Unique Endeavours, Eco Club Endeavours and School Achievements. Each accomplishment spoken, was a testament to the vibrant and dynamic spirit of the school community.

The school proudly honored its alumni who are currently doctors or medical students. Their achievements and dedication to the medical field were recognized as an inspiration for current students.

It was a significant milestone when 80 students, driven by their creativity and determination, wrote and published their very own books. Their commitment to storytelling and self-expression resulted in a collection of diverse and original works, showcasing their talents and potential. It was an equally proud moment when the Yearbook was released, capturing the memories, achievements and spirit of the entire school year. Each page was a testament that the Yearbook was not just a keepsake but a lasting symbol of the year’s most cherished moments. It served as a vivid chronicle of the year’s key events, celebrations and personal milestones, preserving them for generations to come.

The Members of Management, Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewal, expressed their appreciation for the  choreographers and staff members, spearheaded by the Principal, whose relentless passion, creativity, and selfless dedication masterfully wove the school’s diverse cultural tapestry into a breathtaking celebration.

St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School Celebrates Brilliance at Talent Trove 2024

“The true light of creativity shines through when talent meets opportunity.”

In a spectacular celebration of creativity and young talent, St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School hosted the much-awaited inter school competition ‘Talent Trove 2024’ as a part of its 44th Founder’s Day celebrations.

This vibrant platform enabled students from various schools to come together and showcase their brilliance in a range of events, celebrating creativity, camaraderie, and healthy competition. The day began with a soul-stirring Saraswati Vandana rendered by the school’s music teacher, Ms Simran followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the visionary leader, Principal Mrs. Monica Chawla, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and wisdom.

In her opening address, the School Principal Ms. Monica Chawla, emphasized the importance of platforms like Talent Trove in fostering young talent. She  further highlighted the values of creativity, innovation, and dedication that the institution holds dear, praising the participants for embodying these ideals through their performances.

The event’s first highlight was the Disguise Delight Fancy Dress Competition, where kindergarten participants enchanted the audience with their imaginative costumes and expressive performances, showcasing their love for the things they cherish the most. The Storytelling Competition, Narrator’s Nest, brought to life the magic of childhood, with Class 1 students taking the audience on mesmerizing journeys with their favorite cartoon characters. Both events were judged on criteria such as content, pronunciation, voice modulation, confidence, and creativity.

Esteemed judges for the competition, Ms. Aarti Malhotra, Head of the English Department, and Ms. Inderpreet Kaur from the Secondary Block, lauded the participants for their remarkable performances. They were truly mesmerized by the creativity and confidence of the young minds. Their hard work and dedication were evident in every performance.

The much-anticipated prize distribution ceremony saw the top performers awarded for their outstanding efforts, while participation certificates were given to every child, celebrating their involvement and dedication. Fancy Dress Competition The Disguise Delight showcased the incredible creativity and imagination of the young participants, with Amaira from PML SD Public School securing the First place, followed by Adhiraj Rai from AKSIPS 41 Smart School in Second place, and Chris from St. Xavier’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44, taking the third place In the Narrator’s Nest Storytelling Competition, the audience was captivated by the storytelling skills of the contestants. Anaya Saini from K.B. D.A.V. Sr. Sec. Public School, Sector 7, won the first place, while Adhitri Banerjee from Kids R Kids School claimed the second place, and Nirvair Singh Grewal from The New Public School earned the Third place. Additionally, Heyan Gautam from Learning Path School received a Special Recognition for his outstanding performance, which was highly commended by the judges.

The success of ‘Talent Trove 2024’ was made possible by the unwavering support of our esteemed Management members, Mr. Sukhdeep Singh and Mr. Paramdeep Singh Grewal. Principal Mrs. Monica Chawla also expressed her heartfelt thanks to the management members for their trust and guidance. Awareness, Advocacy, and Action : St. Joseph’s hosts Sensitization Session with CCPCR

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

In a transformative initiative aimed at empowering the non-teaching staff, St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, hosted an insightful sensitization session on Child Rights, the POCSO Act, and Cyber Safety. The session was led by the very versatile and accomplished Chairperson of the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR),Ms. Shipra Bansal accompanied by her gracious and modest associate, Ms. Ankita. This awakening event bore the torch of the critical role that every individual within a school ecosystem plays in safeguarding the well-being and rights of children.

Ms. Bansal delivered an impactful discourse that highlighted the key elements of the POCSO Act, elucidating the responsibilities of adults in identifying and preventing any form of abuse against children. She skillfully conveyed the essence of child rights, urging participants to be vigilant protectors of the vulnerable. Drawing from real-life cases, Ms. Bansal’s anecdotes struck a chord with the audience, forging a deep sense of responsibility and awareness. Ms. Ankita further enriched the session by addressing the increasingly prevalent issues of cyber safety. She discussed the potential hazards of the digital space, particularly for children, and shared practical tips on safeguarding them from online exploitation. The interactive nature of the session encouraged the staff to actively participate, with several audience members sharing personal experiences and challenges they had encountered in their professional and personal roles.

The event drew our guests’ attention like a moth drawn to a flame as the remarkable staff put in the most ingenious efforts to deliver the vision and mission of the session with simplicity and grace. Ms. Lovely and Ms. Manjeet found themselves in the roles of a mother and daughter deliberating over the rightful usage of the POCSO Act. Ms. Rashi inspired the audience with her witty craft of encapsulating the theme of the session in an originally composed poetry. Candid moments of poetic appreciation by Ms. Anita Gareja Ms. Lovely and Ms. Rashi served as the cherry on top, elating not just the audience but also our distinguished guests.

The session ended on a high note, with participants collectively pledging to uphold the values of vigilance, safety, and care, ensuring a protective environment for all students. Promises were made to not only implement the knowledge gained but to also administer a culture of awareness and compassion.

School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh gathered to celebrate  Founder’s Day and pay tribute to the enduring spirit of the Founders whose legacy andlabour of love have shaped generations of students into compassionate, intelligent, and empowered individuals.

The entire JosephianFamily came together at the entrance to welcome Chairman Emeritus-Mr. Rupinder Singh and Mrs. Harjinder Kaur- the Founder Lady and Members of the Management, Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewalwho were enveloped in a whimsical confetti of blossoms. They were presented with vibrant bouquets and stunning planters that represented the depth of everyone’sreverence and regard.

The school façade had been adorned with  stunning display boards that incorporated all the love and affection the family has for the Founder Lady whose birthday marks the special occasion. Vibrant backdrops, designed specifically for the occasion, were erected throughout the campus, featuring inspirational quotes and messages.

A specially curated Timeline Wall that showcased a ‘Milestones and Memories’ display, highlighting key achievements and moments that have shaped the school’s history, was inaugurated by the Members of the Management Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr.  Paramdeep Grewal in the presence of the Founder Lady.

The school resonated with warmth and admiration, as students, teachers and staff shared in a collective expression of gratitude by presenting Shawls to former teachers.

The soulful rendition of medley prepared by the Music teamwas the perfect accompaniment to the Founder’s Day festivitiesas was the performance by the Mini maestrosof Kindergarten who mesmerized the audience with their innocent charm and talent.

The contributions of the educators who have served for 10, 15, 20 and 25 years were also recognised by conferring them with trophies and certificates for their unwavering commitment throughout the years.Among those honored were Ms. Jaspreet Kaur, Ms. Monika Tawar, Ms. Preeti Gill, Ms. Lovely Sharma, Ms. Ravinder Kaur, Ms. Aarti Malhotra, Ms. Ravinder Saini, Ms. Ramanjit Kaur, Ms. Tawinder Kaur, Mr. Prithvi Raj, Ms. Manjit Kaur, Ms. AshuMago, and Ms. Vandana Vats, all recognized for their dedication.

The celebrations also included the release of exclusively tailored Booklets which contained handwritten letters composed by the students of the current batch to the future Josephiansalong with an aesthetically designed newspaper incorporating messages from faculty members who have been part of  St. Joseph’s for over 20 years,  as well as the Alumni and the current students who poured their hearts out, expressing their dedication and gratitude towards the institution.

The school also hosted a Langar to honour the Founders’ legacy and selfless vision which was an integral part of the celebration.

Continuing the time-honoured tradition of selfless service, Principal Ms. Monica Chawla’s visionary project reignited its momentum a day prior. This noble initiative, crafted in collaboration with The Institute for the Blind, yielded 10 meticulously designed teaching aids.TheGames and Models were Subject based that would in a way redefine learning for thevisually challenged children,transforming knowledge into an immersive journey where fun meets accessibility.

At St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Teachers’ Day is not just a day of celebration—it’s a week-long journey of love, compassion, and deep connections. From August 29 to September 4, 2024, students and teachers embarked on a heart-warming  outreach program, “Teaching Beyond Walls,” embracing the true essence of education. Over seven days, they visited various institutions, not only to give but also to learn, share, and uplift those around them. This innovative program, the visionary brainchild of Ms. Monica Chawla, has been successfully operational for the past five years, making a significant impact and leaving a lasting legacy. Teacher’s Day is celebrated in a way that highlights and honors the remarkable achievements of this impactful initiative. These experiences created lasting impressions, fostering a culture of empathy and kindness.

 

The festivities commenced with a warm and reverent welcome accorded to the teachers by the Principal and the cabinet members, marked by the ceremonial application of tilak and a mesmerizing rendition of songs.

 

The laughter continued with skits that had everyone in fits of joy, and students delighted their teachers with intricate mehendi designs and playful nail art, showcasing their appreciation in creative ways.

 

Teachers poured their hearts out in heartfelt messages on the board displayed for the same and revelled in joyful selfie sessions, capturing the spirit of the moment with beaming smiles.

 

They were overwhelmed by the meticulous endeavours made by the students to take the celebrations a notch up with their hilarious Skits, and their attempt to transform their teachers into fashionistas with their intricate mehendi designs and chic nail art.

 

The Members of the Management, Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewal as well as Principal Ms. Monica Chawla were presented with exquisitely handcrafted tokens of affection from the Staff and students for their unequivocal support and mentorship.

 

Later in the day, the revelry continued as the Josephian Family gathered at The Oyster in Sector 17 for an opulent feast.

 

It was a moment of great pride for everyone as two Teachers, Ms Jyothi Belawadi and Ms. Rashi Srivastava were conferred with the State Award and Commendation for the Best Teacher respectively. They were elated to be honoured once again by the Management Members and Principal, attributing their success to their guidance and counsel.

 

It seemed to be raining awards as any other educators were also awarded for various categories such as the Best Teacher (Block wise) Marigold Teacher, Most Punctual Teacher and Best Messages (showcasing gratitude and blessings for children).

 

The highly coveted Lily Sebastian Award was bestowed upon Ms. Rani Pal, an exemplary stalwart of the institution for her unwavering and steadfast endeavours. More awards followed, recognizing excellence and dedication across various categories. Among the honored teachers were Ms. Rajni Bajaj, Ms. Tejinder Kaur, Ms. Renu Dhiman, Ms. Tamanna, Ms. Renu Sidana, Ms. Sheeba Negi, Ms. Neelam Verma, and Ms. Manjeet Kaur.

 

Soon it was time for the young at heart Facilitators to let their hair down and show off their best moves, as they danced with unbridled enthusiasm and joy.

 

Teachers’ Day festivities came to a close, leaving behind a trail of gratitude and appreciation for the guardians of knowledge. While addressing the gathering Principal Ma’am stated that teachers truly epitomize the quote of Rita Pierson who said, “Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”

Josephites spearhead a sustainable initiative – Paper Bank Revolution

In a heartening display of environmental consciousness and social responsibility, our young advocates of the future under the guidance of Principal Ms. Monica Chawla have initiated a remarkable Paper Bank revolution. With unwavering dedication, they have embarked on a mission to transform the way we perceive waste paper, turning it into a valuable resource for both the school and the community.

 

Over the past weeks, students have rallied together, bringing in volumes of papers from fully or partially unused notebooks from previous sessions. Their efforts have been nothing short of inspiring, as they have collected a substantial amount of paper, ready to be repurposed for a noble cause.

 

The Paper Bank Revolution goes beyond mere recycling. Through a meticulous upcycling process, the collected paper is transformed into high-quality notepads, suitable for use within the school premises. Moreover, the generosity of the students extends beyond their own needs, as donations are made to support needy children in the wider community.

 

This initiative underscores the power of collective action and the capacity of young minds to drive positive change. By reimagining waste paper as a valuable commodity and extending a helping hand to those less fortunate, the students of St. Joseph’s are setting an inspiring example for us all.

Janmashtami Festivities marked with Devotion and Spirituality

“The birth of Lord Krishna is the dawn of hope, the light of wisdom, and the essence of divine love.”

St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School Chandigarh celebrated the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami with great zeal and enthusiasm, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions and cultural heritage that mark this significant festival. The event, commemorating the divine birth of Lord Krishna, symbolizes the beginning of hope, the end of darkness and rooting out of evil forces.

The students of the school, actively participated in a variety of activities designed to highlight the importance of Janmashtami. The little ones, dressed as Radha and Krishna, stole the show with their adorable performances. As a part of its Janmashtami celebrations, the students of the Primary 2 Block captivated the audience with a mesmerizing enactment of Lord Krishna’s life. The students brought to life the enchanting tales of Lord Krishna, capturing the essence of his divine persona and the profound teachings that have guided generations. The students of Primary Block 1 engaged in creative decoration of iconic symbols of the Lord, the flute and the matki, crafting vibrant and ornate work of art using sequins, beads, threads and feathers. Joining the celebration, the Middle Block students designed miniature versions of Lord Krishna’s cradle, his symbolic flutes and crowns that glorify and adorn the savior. The Senior Block added to the fervor of the celebrations by participating in a poster making activity depicting scenes from the life of Lord Vishnu’s incarnation which included his childhood mischief, the Ras Leela and the divine moment of his birth.

Actively engaging and taking pride in the joyous celebration, the Principal highlighted the significance of Janmashtami, urging students to imbibe the teachings of Lord Krishna in their lives. She emphasized the importance of upholding the values of truth, devotion, and righteousness as exemplified by Lord Krishna.

The various activities to mark the day fostered a sense of pride and respect for tradition among the participants, making the celebration of Janmashtami even more meaningful. The entire event was a true reflection of the rich cultural and religious traditions that are the essence of Indian festivals, nurturing a spirit of unity and devotion among the students and staff alike.
