At St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh, Teachers’ Day is not simply an occasion to honour teachers—it is a moment to celebrate the heart behind the profession. Year after year, through the school’s cherished initiative “Teaching Beyond the Walls,” teachers step beyond the familiar precincts of their classrooms, carrying with them knowledge, compassion and, most importantly, a genuine desire to connect.
This year, that journey unfolded across diverse communities and institutions, each encounter leaving its own quiet imprint. At the community in Sector 25, teachers shared enriching activities with children, creating moments of curiosity and possibility. At Satya Sai Old Age Home, the day took a gentler turn as conversations, memories and companionship brought warmth to both sides. At Sector 30, learning unfolded through engaging activities, while Aashiyana for Girls, Sector 15, became a space for confidence, creativity and self-expression.
At Prayaas, Sector 38, enthusiasm and participation transformed learning into discovery. Vatika School, Sector 19, resonated with youthful curiosity and lively engagement. At the Institute for the Blind, teachers experienced the profound beauty of inclusive learning, where ability, determination and aspiration spoke louder than limitations. At JJ Homes, meaningful interactions fostered connection and encouragement. Government Model School, Sector 35 (Senior Secondary), witnessed an enriching exchange of ideas, while SOREM, Sector 36-C, offered yet another reminder of the transformative power of inclusion and human connection.

And amidst these moments of giving came moments of immense pride for the St. Joseph’s family. Ms Shimmi was honoured with the prestigious State Award, while Ms Anita Gareja received a Commendation for their exemplary contributions to education. Their recognition became a collective moment of joy and pride—a reminder that dedication, when nurtured with sincerity, eventually finds its rightful place in the light.
Our worthy Principal, Ms Monica Chawla, was also bestowed with a special recognition Award by the Chandigarh Education Department at Tagore Theatre for her selfless service and steadfast commitment to education. Her recognition was a tribute to a life devoted to nurturing an institution, empowering teachers and placing the welfare of children at the heart of every endeavour.
The celebrations then moved to Sterling Avante, Mohali, where the school’s teachers were themselves placed at the centre of appreciation. Teachers were felicitated for their sincere efforts, dedication and invaluable contribution to the school community. It was a beautiful acknowledgement of the countless ways in which they give of themselves—often quietly, consistently and without seeking recognition. At St. Joseph’s, nobody goes unnoticed; every effort counts, every contribution matters.
Among the most cherished honours of the occasion was the Lily Sebastian Award presented to Ms Paramjit, an award given to teachers who give their very souls to the children they teach. Having devoted an extraordinary 36 years to St. Joseph’s, Ms Paramjit is a remarkable embodiment of commitment, perseverance and love for the profession. Thirty-six years of nurturing generations of young minds is not merely a milestone; it is a legacy. Her recognition was a deeply deserved tribute to a lifetime of selfless service.

With the formal appreciation giving way to celebration, teachers set aside schedules and responsibilities and surrendered themselves to an afternoon of games, music, laughter and spirited camaraderie. The air was filled with cheerful banter, shared memories and the unguarded joy of simply being together.
The celebrations culminated in a grand festive lunch, where convivial conversations and heartfelt laughter lingered around the table, bringing the day to a fitting close.
Perhaps that is the essence of “Teaching Beyond the Walls.” Teachers went out believing they had lessons to give, and returned carrying something far more precious—memories, connections, gratitude and lessons of their own.
