Seminar on Global Peace at St. Joseph’s

Gandhiji once said that Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellow men.

Indeed,  what greater cause can there be than to promote peace  which helps us to achieve security and tranquillity and avoid anxiety and chaos to make our lives better?

Students of the Middle Block at St. Joseph’s Sr.Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh were blessed with the opportunity of interacting with Ms. Saba Sharma, who is currently pursuing her BA Honours of Albukhary University in Malaysia. Ms. Sharma is an ardent promoter of Peace and the recipient of the Asian Girls Rights Award for her exceptional contributions in bringing about awareness regarding pertinent social issues. She has been actively involved in community service at the Bapu Dham Colony even during the stressful COVID Times.

Touching upon a myriad of themes,  she highlighted the importance of acquiring Inner Peace through Meditation,  Yoga ,  ensuring SDG 5 – Gender Equality, correlating them with the attainment of a peaceful society. Students were quite taken up with the amiable and affable manner in which she  gave them examples from her own life experiences, stating that everyone has to face ups and downs in life. It’s up to us how we overcome these challenges. She expounded on the importance of addressing conflict in a peaceful way so as to ensure equitable and sustainable development.

Taking inspiration from the dissemination,  Aashi Gautam, a student of Class VIII also put forth her views on the same theme of Global Peace.

She motivated her peers by appealing to them to eliminate the word ‘discrimination’  from their dictionaries since, according to her, it was the root cause of the conflicts in the world.

She also shared some useful tips to calm the mind in case of any dissension, stating that acquiring a hobby is often the best way to take our mind off things that perturb us.

Principal Ms. Monica Chawla was delighted at the efficacious interaction of the students and Ms. Saba. She encouraged them to partake in all such activities that would enhance their overall development. She particularly emphasized that apart from their academic curriculum, students should also inculcate the habit of Reading as it helps to keeps the brain active, stimulates creativity, inspires us and improves communication skills. She also regaled them with anecdotes and powerful life lessons from the book, ‘Who Will Cry When You Die’ by the renowned author Robin Sharma. She reiterated the dire need for the young generation to take up the cudgels and become the torch bearers of a brighter, better tomorrow by spreading the message of peaceful coexistence by setting an example for others.
