World Peace on the World UN Day

“Peace cannot be established by force,

It can only be achieved by understanding.”

The students of Class 5 of Primary 2 of St Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sec 44-D , Chandigarh had organised a two day virtual celebration on 22nd and 23rd October 2020 to mark the 75th Anniversary of World UN Day.

24th October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. UN Day marks the anniversary of UN Charter coming into effect in 1945. The year 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and its founding Charter.

The main motive of the school holding these celebrations was that this anniversary comes in the time of a global health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had adverse effects on the economy and society. Therefore, all the students and teachers needed a reminder that times of struggle can become an opportunity for positive change and transformation.

Several activities were held for students at St. Joseph’s to groom the next generation of world leaders and create positive thoughts towards world peace in the young minds. The school held a poster making activity for the students on the topic: “The World We Want. illustrating our common hopes and dreams for the future.”

The students made good use of their artistic skills and innovative visions and turned in several stunning entries.

A paper reading activity about goals, objectives, functioning and importance of UN as an organisation was held to bring awareness among the students .Students also made amazing power point presentations and informed everyone in great depth about the various agencies of the United Nations and their functions, as well as how to achieve world peace .The students also provided innovative and illuminating solutions to the various problems regarding world peace presented to them. Students also created placards with beautiful thoughts, quotes or slogans on world peace.

Teachers also showed the special film to the students created by United Nations named Nations United on its 75th Anniversary.

The celebrations wanted to bring awareness to everyone that confronting problems is a start but efficiently solving them without giving up is the biggest challenge which lies in front of us.

All the activities aimed for collective commitment, cooperation, multilaterism and global solidarity among all the people in the world during these tough times of global pandemic.

The two day celebrations ended with a pledge by all the Josephians that they would work for peace, dignity and equality for a healthier planet.

The young our collective commitment to cooperation, multilateralism and global solidarity.

“Reimagine, Rebalance, Restart: recovering together for our shared humanity”,

enduring commitment to peace, development and security.

Nations United is a special film created by the United Nations on its 75th Anniversary. In the midst of a pandemic radically transforming our world,

Nations United tells the story of the world as it is, as it was, and as it could be. It focuses on the solutions and action we need to tackle poverty, inequality, injustice and climate change.
