EDUCARNIVAL- ART INTEGRATED LEARNING FESTIVAL AT ST.JOSEPH’S

“Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else.”

In congruence with above, Art Integration is an approach to teaching that integrates the fine and performing arts as primary pathways to learning. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject and meets evolving objectives in both. The goal of art integration is to increase knowledge of a general subject area while concurrently fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the fine and performing arts.

In Primary 1  A set of age appropriate curriculum-aligned,activities were conducted to cover the learning areas of all the subjects. Few activities like segregation of parts of speech in fun – filled manner, parts of plants with clay moulding, multiplication activity with ice cream sticks and number concepts through art integration were conducted and in Primary block 2 the students narrated scenes from the story books they read, role – play, skit using props like puppets, placards, and Maths activities were oragnised to drive out the fear of the Maths Monster from the minds of the students and prepare them to face the challenges with numbers at ease and remove the stress of solving the intricate problems through delicious Diwali recipes and rangolis, Making fraction flowers and Fun with Fraction hangings, etc.

In the Kindergarten block also age appropriate art-integrated fun activities were done and children participated enthusiastically in them.

To make the students understand the importance of ‘Green Diwali’ as the festival was round the corner, students of St . Joseph’s Sr. Sec . The carnival saw students preparing and sharing on the virtual platform, Mathematical Rangoli , Illusion and Tora, Zones of Flames through Diwali Diyas inside – out, having quizzes and Role Plays and presenting powerpoint presentations amongst many other events.

In the Secondary Block Social Science art integration was done with help of cartoon making, Venn diagram, puppet show, role play, mind map and travel brochure making. In pure Sciences students created a six-panel brochure (designed on a computer) that highlights the important information about the element of their choice and the Energy Transformations Cards.  In Mathematics Rangoli designs on coloured sheet using mathematical figures brought the festival spirit alive in the classes and in English drawing of the timelines, situations from chapters and doing an inside-outside activity to talk about outer and inner personality of a fictional character from any chapter and also for themselves were done not only to have fun while learning but as an opportunity to introspect and become self-aware.

Overall the event was full of new ways of learning and students enthusiastically participated in all the activities. This gave them an opportunity to embrace the festivities of Diwali with some enlightenment of learning.
