 55th International Literacy Day

St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School  commemorated the 55th International Literacy Day on 8th September 2021 in observance of the UNESCO’s declaration of 26th October 1966 in its 14th Session of General Conference,to “remind the International Community of the Importance of literacy for Individuals, communities and societies. St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School stood firmly for it and aimed to further it in times to come fully realizing the Challenges towards gaining literacy. The whole world has been hit by CORONAVIRUS 2019 or COVID 19. Millions lost their lives. The crisis still looms large. St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School accordingly geared itself up to meet the new challenge in consonance with the policy structure laid down by the Government of India. This necessitated teachers to devise ways to overcome it. The mobile phone technologies. It was an arduous task initially many bottle necks before this new Online educational exercise could be fully operationalized. This new virtual education system was not an alternative to the School but provided a safe stop gap arrangement.
The Covid 19 catastrophe disrupted the whole learning process to an unprecedented level magnifying the pre-existing inequalities. An un-certainty prevailed all over. At this point the human intelligence of employing virtual and tele informatics technology played an important role and provided the required platform for paving way for virtual learning, giving a ray of hope to keep the student in touch with literacy.  Literacy empowers human being to expand his capabilities and choose a life he can value and enjoy. Constant efforts were made to make the new technology learning friendly and efforts are still on to make this new online Education system more inclusive and meaningful to expand its base so that no one is left untouched. The teachers  at this juncture are shouldering the responsibility of shaping the  post COVID 19 era and are inculcating innovative changes to keep the students, learners abreast with  latest and upgraded literacy curricula and also maintain connectivity with the schools of learning.
On this 55th International Literacy Day on 8th September  teaching activities were carried out in the  primary block 2 of the School, poster making, learning interaction, teaching the underprivileged was taken as a  task. Teams were formed both from teachers and students for learning activities. A staggered gathering observing corona protocol was conducted to pledge against illiteracy.
