 World Earth Day

Celebrating World Earth Day with a Unique Touch

“To be whole. To be complete. Wildness reminds us what it means to be humans, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from.”

Terry Tempest Williams

Tolerance, forgiveness, caring and giving are the qualities which can synonymously be used for both Mother Earth and Women. Both are creators and nurturers with innate quality to offer selflessly. As the world celebrates World Earth Day on April 22, the students and staff at St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh celebrated the day in its own unique way.

The event was presided over by Ms. Harjinder Kaur, chairperson CCPCR who has been working relentlessly for the upliftment of the underprivileged children across the city. We also had the honour of having amongst us Ms. Pooja Panchi and Dr. Monica, both member of CCPCR.

The celebrations saw felicitation of girls from the school and their appointment as the ambassadors of Women’s Rights under the Girls India Project. The Josephian family has always been committed towards creating a sustainable Earth for all and directs all its efforts towards the goal not just on Earth Day but every single day in the calendar.

The celebration of the World Earth Day this year marks yet another milestone towards our commitment to a greener and cleaner Earth. The celebrations began with everyone joining hands and pledging their devotion and taking onus to create plastic free city. This was followed by a Nukkad Natika which shared the wonderful journey of the empowered girls under the Girls India Project.  The entire auditorium resonated with laughter when Ms. Jyoti shared hilarious anecdotes of children’s transition from the online mode of teaching to offline mode. The children also participated in a fancy dress activity and sent across the message as how humans and earth are interdependent and how our actions directly and indirectly affect the Earth. They urged the audience to do their bit for a better tomorrow for all.

It was a proud moment for the entire school as ten girls from our school were felicitated as Girls India Project Champions for their persistent and continuous endeavours to make the Project a huge success. The elated girls shared how this unique programme had empowered them to touch and inspire many more. The girls enlightened the audience with the girls’ rights and committed themselves to becoming the brand ambassadors for their propagation to schools across the city under the Girl-Child Rights Campaign.

The Programme ended with inspiring words from Ms. Harjinder Kaur who praised the efforts of the teachers and the students of the school for making the Girls India Project a grand success. She reiterated the fact that how a single candle can light so many more and how a single step can bring about a revolution. The management members Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewal appreciated the conscientious efforts of the students, marking each innovative venture with perfection. Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla thanked the chief guest for her encouraging words and expressed her belief in her students who have always been the pioneers for setting benchmarks.
